August 25 Patience in the Routine<\/p>\n
“Be thou there till I bring thee word” (Matt. 2:13).<\/p>\n
“I’ll stay where You’ve put me;
\nI will, dear Lord, Though I wanted so badly to go;
\nI was eager to march with the ‘rank and file,’
\nYes, I wanted to lead them, You know.
\nI planned to keep step to the music loud,
\nTo cheer when the banner unfurled,
\nTo stand in the midst of the fight straight and proud,
\nBut I’ll stay where You’ve put me.<\/p>\n
“I’ll stay where You’ve put me; I’ll work, dear Lord,
\nThough the field be narrow and small,
\nAnd the ground be fallow, and the stones lie thick,
\nAnd there seems to be no life at all.
\nThe field is Thine own, only give me the seed,
\nI’ll sow it with never a fear;
\nI’ll till the dry soil while I wait for the rain,
\nAnd rejoice when the green blades appear;
\nI’ll work where You’ve put me.<\/p>\n

\nI’ll bear the day’s burden and heat,
\nAlways trusting Thee fully; when even has come
\nI’ll lay heavy sheaves at Thy feet.
\nAnd then, when my earth work is ended and done,
\nIn the light of eternity’s glow,
\nLife’s record all closed, I surely shall find
\nIt was better to stay than to go;
\nI’ll stay where You’ve put me.”<\/p>\n
