July 16 Who is Leading?<\/p>\n
“O Lord , I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jer. 10:23).<\/p>\n
“Lead me in a plain path” (Ps. 27:14).<\/p>\n
Many people want to direct God, instead of
\nresigning themselves to be directed by Him; to
\nshow Him a way, instead of passively following
\nwhere He leads. –Madame Guyon<\/p>\n
I said: “Let me walk in the field”;
\nGod said: ‘Nay, walk in the town”;
\nI said: “There are no flowers there”;
\nHe said: “No flowers, but a crown.”<\/p>\n
I said: “But the sky is black,
\nThere is nothing but noise and din”;
\nBut He wept as He sent me back,
\n“There is more,” He said, “there is sin<\/p>\n
I said: “But the air is thick,
\nAnd fogs are veiling the sun”;
\nHe answered: “Yet souls are sick,
\nAnd souls in the dark undone.”<\/p>\n
I said: “I shall miss the light,
\nAnd friends will miss me, they say”;
\nHe answered me, “Choose tonight,
\nIf I am to miss you, or they.”<\/p>\n
I pleaded for time to be given;
\nHe said: “Is it hard to decide?
\nIt will not seem hard in Heaven
\nTo have, followed the steps of your Guide.”<\/p>\n
I cast one look at the fields,
\nThen set my face to the town;
\nHe said: “My child, do you yield?
\nWill you leave the flowers for the crown?”<\/p>\n
Then into His hand went mine,
\nAnd into my heart came He;
\nAnd I walk in a light Divine,
